BMW Vision and BMW i8 Best Super Hybrid Sports Coupe In Concept 2013

BMW i8

The BMW i8 Hybrid Sports Coupe name was predictable: it’ll be a topline automotive, the head of BMW’s complete of technology, performance, and frugality. it’ll be expensive, too: you’ll get similar performance, though not economy, in an M3 for a fraction of the value. The name i3 for the smaller automotive may be a surprise. is that this very little bubble prepared for comparison with the three Series? despite the fact that the i3 is little, it’s space-efficient, has four doors, and will have interior accommodations matching a three Series sedan. The name permits space for an i2 and i1, showing BMW’s intent to travel smaller during this vary.

The BMW i3 and BMW i8 share plenty. each have an aluminum chassis, chosen for its ability to soak up crash energy. The lithium-ion batteries are stored within the center, protected by sturdy aluminum perimeter beams, and also the powertrain and suspension are mounted during this chassis structure. Passenger compartment and exterior panels are of carbon fiber. BMW calls the concept LifeDrive. The Drive half is aluminum; the Life half (for the occupants) is carbon fiber. These light-weight materials can aid in cancelling out the extra weight of a battery. The i3 and i8 share battery technology and also the principles within the drive motors and electronics.

BMW i8 Hybrid Sports Coupe

The BMW i8 hybrid sports coupe was recently spotted by Bimmerpost undergoing cold-weather testing somewhere in Northern Europe. Word has it that the i8 hybrid sports coupe will now come with a gas engine as opposed to the previously held position of diesel engine variants. According to BMW’s research and development chief, Klaus Draeger, the company has big plans for the i8 sports hybrid coupe, one that involves being sold not just in Europe, but all over the world. Sounds good to hear, if you ask us. While we wait for the production version to arrive sometime in 2013, we can pass time by checking out these three testing videos after the jump. It’s not the first time we hear about the possibility of the Vision Efficient Dynamics going into production, but today we have more details about the production version: the i8. And while the concept is powered by a three cylinder turbo diesel power plant combined with two electric motors, the i8 will be offered in both electric and hybrid versions. Rumors suggest that the Project i Coupe won’t be flying solo as BMW may be panning on an M version for this future model and it will most likely be called the M1.

BMW i8 Hybrid

As a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) the BMW i8 combines the best of both worlds. It lets you experience the fascinating driving experience of electrically powered cars with zero driving emissions for everyday use. While at the same time offering sports car performance, unbeatable fuel efficiency and the driving range for longer journeys. But sustainability is not only limited to the car's stunning efficiency. The BMW i8 features sustainable premium interior materials that make you feel good about something that feels great. In a big fundamental change for the upcoming BMW i8, the future BMW halo car will be powered by a gasoline engine instead of diesel. It was previously intended to be powered by a 161-horsepower 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo DIESEL engine mated with a hybrid synchronous motor on the front axle (80HP) and full electric motor on the rear axle (51HP), to give a combined 292HP. The diesel motor will now be replaced by a traditional gasoline engine.

The BMW i8 is purpose built, only for a different purpose. The LifeDrive concept allows a progressive sporty design, balanced weight distribution and low center of gravity, which results in superior driving characteristics. High-tech, super strong CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) for reduced weight and enhanced aerodynamics lets you enjoy sporty driving with a clear conscience. Thanks to the intelligent LifeDrive architecture up to four passengers can share this unique driving pleasure.
