The second generation 2010 Equinox was unveiled by GM on 21 December 2008. It has a pair of new direct injection engines with better fuel economy promised by GM .
The new 2.4-liter I4 engine produces 182 horsepower (136 kW), 172 lb.-ft. (233 Nm) and reaches up to 22 miles per U.S. gallon (11 l/100 km, 26 mpg-imp) (city), 32 miles per U.S. gallon (7.4 l/100 km 38 mpg-imp) (Highway), which is a significant increase in fuel economy in the previous model .

Also available is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 264 horsepower (197 kW), 214 lb.-ft. (290 Nm) with the fuel economy of 18 miles per U.S. gallon (13 l/100 km and 22 mpg-imp) and at 25 miles per U.S. gallon (9.4 l/100 km 30 mpg-imp) (Highway).
Both propulsion systems are supported with optional six-speed automatic and all wheel drive system (front wheel drive is standard).
The Chevy Equinox 2010 is built on a rigid version of the same "Theta" platform used in the previous model, and is available from June 2009.
