the family home is composed of a series of volumes stacked on top of one another. the home is clad in
muted black slate and covered in large expansive windows to let the natural light inside. the home is two
and half soterys and is designed in an l-formation around an outdoor swimming pool. the orientation of the
home and its windows was particularly set to maximize sun exposure. the heavy use of glass is best
exemplified by the 13-foot front window made from 475 vertically stacked sheets of heavy, jagged-cut
glass. the center of the home is accented with a black slate wall that is perforated with windows, running
through each floor. the whole home covers 325m square.

O femeie trăieşte zilnic viaţa la extrem în locuinţa sa din America de Sud. Riana Van Nieuwenhuizen împarte casa cu patru gheparzi, cinci lei şi doi tigri. Femeia, în vârstă de 46 de ani, nu se teme de riscurile la care se expune şi spune că ţine foarte mult la toate animalele sale.
Cele 11 feline, alături de care Riana trăieşte zi de zi, au la dispoziţie întreaga casă şi se joacă cu cei doi câini ai femeii. Nu de puţine ori, felinele dorm chiar cu femeia în pat, scrie Dailymail.co.uk.
Riana a cumpărat primul ghepard în 2006, când a realizat că felinele mari sunt în mare pericol şi pe cale de dispariţie. A renunţat la locul de muncă pe care îl avea în domeniul justiţiei de 22 ani şi a ales un job temporar la o fermă unde a putut să îşi crească ghepardul.

Folosirea telefonului şi a internetului în străinătate este încurajată de tarife mai mici cu până 60% care se aplică de peste două zile. Acestea sunt cerinţele Comisiei Europene, obligatorii pentru toţi operatorii europeni de telefonie.
Rămâne mai ieftin să primeşti un telefon când eşti în străinătate, cu toate că tariful scade la 0,19 euro pe minut, iar pentru apeluri efectuate, la 0,43 euro. Însă noutatea, de această dată, este că apelurările efectuate în roamnig vor fi facturate la secundă, după primele 30 şi nu la minut. Iar cele pentru apeluri primite, vor fi facturate la secundă, după prima secundă. Ceea ce poate reduce cu un sfert facturarea convorbirilor în roaming.
Se ieftinesc şi sms-urile, chiar de trei ori. Dar noutatea absolută este că navigarea pe internet, expedierea imaginilor sau descărcarea filmelor costă mai puţin, cel mult un euro pe megabit descărcat. Tarifele trebuie să se aplice de la 1 iulie, dar deja operatorii din România le-au anunţat de două săptămâni.
First Quantum Processor Performs Simple Tasks

Yale researchers just made the first, albeit simple, quantum processor. The processor is made of two artificial atoms (each made of a billion aluminum atoms) that act like single atoms that can occupy two distinct states.
But because of the fact that the laws of quantum mechanics are so strange, the qubits (atoms) can be placed into a "superposition of multiple states" in order for them to store more than just the standard amount of information.
Now they're working on adding more qubits, which adds more power on an exponential scale. We're going to be Giz Explaining what's up with quantum computing soon.

Toyota Scientists Succeed in Thought-Controlled Wheelchair

Sure, brain wave-controlled robots, music, cell-phones, and games give us tech lust, but Toyota's announcement that it's developed a way to control a wheel chair—without the need for movement or voice—fills me with equal amounts of awesome.
Seeing technology applied in a field that has the potential to help so many makes for a nice change sometimes, ya know? The breakthrough comes from scientists at the BSI-Toyota Collaboration Center, which teams various groups including Toyota Motorand the mostly-Japanese-government-funded RIKEN
research unit).
At this stage, the system centers on an electroencephalograph (EEG) scanner cap that the wheelchair user wears so their brain waves can be scanned and analyzed by a computer. The result is the ability to make movements almost in real time. Stopping is reportedly a little harder, with the user having to puff up a cheek to trigger a detector worn on the face. Still, that's pretty freakn'cool.

The base car, a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, is completely disassembled. The modifications to the engine, aerodynamics, wheels, tires, exhaust system and interior are made to measure at edo competition within a three month time frame.

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 based Edo Competition LP710-2 is a faster, more powerful, 2WD version of Lamborghini's flagship model.
The Murcielago LP710-2 is powered by a 6.5 litre V12 engine which develops 710 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The increase in power was achieved through the use of new exhaust headers, new high flow catalytic converters, new mufflers, a new exhaust tip, new performance camshafts, modified cylinder heads and new high flow air filters. The electronic engine control system has been reprogrammed to compliment the mechanical modifications.
The power improvements are not the only modifications to the powertrain. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the LP710-2 is the fact the standard cars AWD system has been replaced with a RWD layout. Aside from the handling changes, this conversion has resulted in a weight saving of 40 kgs (88 lbs).
Cosmetic and aerodynamic modifications to the LP710-2 include a newly developed and beautifully shaped rear wing with an adjustable lip. A 19 inch light alloy wheel set with special Continental high-speed tires completes the Edo Competition package.

The supercar specialists from Edo Competition have launched their Edo Ferrari California upgrade program which brings both styling and performance modifications.
The Edo Ferrari California comes with a re-programmed ECU that takes the power output of the 8-cylinder engine to 367 kW (500 hp) and a maximum 369 ft-lb of torque at 5,200 rpm. The Edo Ferrari California is also available with a new performance exhaust system with adjustable butterfly valves and high flow catalytic converters. With the added juice, the Edo Ferrari California is able to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and to top at a maximum speed of 315 km/h (196 mph).
As an option, the Edo Ferrari California can be ordered with a lowered ride height and an adjustable sport suspension.
As far as the styling options of the Edo Ferrari California go, the tuner offers a range of 20 and 21 inch wheel / tire combinations and interior combinations that are limited only by the customer's imagination.

Suzuki has revealed the A-Star Concept, an A-segment five-door hatchback vehicle that previews a global production model which will be launched on October 2008 in Europe and other Countries including India. It will debut at Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi.
The launch of the A-Star Concept is the fifth model in Suzuki's world strategy for long-term growth. It follows the launch of the Splash at the 2007 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
Scheduled to debut at Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi (9-17 January 2008), the Suzuki A-Star Concept is an A-segment five-door hatchback reflecting a focus on world-class environmental compatibility and comfort and will show some of the forthcoming model’s design themes.
The new model will have an all new Euro 5-compliant 1.0-litre aluminium petrol engine with CO2 emissions lower than those of European competitors (target: lower than 109g/km).
Suzuki A-Star ConceptConcept A-Star is the first concept car in which designers from Maruti Suzuki India’s research and development division have been involved from the initial stage of its styling.

The production model of the Concept A-Star will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki India’s Manesar plant, and will be marketed mainly in Europe and other countries including India. Production is scheduled to start in October 2008.
The new 1.0-litre aluminium engine will be produced by Maruti Suzuki India, and a manual transmission for it will be manufactured by Suzuki Powertrain India, another SMC subsidiary that’s based beside Maruti Suzuki India’s Manesar plant.
Suzuki A-Star ConceptSuzuki Powertrain India also produces a 1.3-litre diesel engine, but SMC does not plan to use it in the new production car as the new 1.0-litre petrol engine is environmentally superior.
SMC is studying options for small diesel engines for production by Suzuki Powertrain India in the future.
Given the importance of India to the Suzuki world strategy, the Corporation is investingsubstantially in Maruti Suzuki between 2007-2009.
It plans to expand production capacity to 960,000 units per year by March 2010.
